i was with my boyfriend's family who are jewish.
having grown up as a witness, i always felt closer to jews than most christians (when you think about it there are a number of commonalities, like not celebrating christmas, having a "memorial" often on passover night that talks a lot about the israelites escaping egypt, the whole ot focus of the witnesses instead of on the christ of the nt, etc.).
anyway, it was thanksgiving and my boyfriend's aunt was there who was a holocaust survivor.

I do agree with you.
I was there for over 20 years, thinking the way the WTS wants them to think. And I've been out for 6 months only. I must say I'm closer to God now. I rarely think JW thoughts. A possible exception is when my wife and I joke about the past.

my number one thing is finding out that the name "jehovah" was not in the bible like it was in the new world translation (tm).
christians did not call god "jehover" "jehovah" or by his first name, no more than you would call your father by his first name when you were a child.

They are taught that they are living in a spiritual paradise. Ha, ha, ha.
If that is a spiritual paradise, I honestly prefer hell. And I'm sooooooo happy and free here in hell.
If I'm not wrong, living in a spiritual paradise means producing the fruitage of the spirit (as G. Gangas loved to emphasize). And I don't believe JW do necessarily better than people from other religions in producing the fruitage of the spirit!
i think most of the elders relied on the "smart ones" to help them out.
my experience was that there was probably 2 or 3 "sharp ones".
the rest were dopey!
Sad to admit, but most of them are just "businessmen."
A few day before leaving Bethel (where I had served as a congregation elder and a Bethel elder), a fine young bethelite told me: "I'm going to miss you." And I asked him why. He replied: "Because you're humane."
I do know what kind of people elders can be and what in reality they're expected to be. Very few are real Christians.

I've been doing this silently. And I just love that. I mean, they've been trying to contact me by phone, and yet they don't get a word from me. They must be thinking I've gone bananas. You know, I haven't come up for the meetings for a couple of months. And I won't anymore. No more of that!!! Sweet, silent vengeance. Ha, ha, ha ...
